from grapes has prospered in the country. People thinking of wine often think people talking about Thai wine are talking of the rice wine sato or some other such variety of wines that Asian countries are supposed to produce, they hardly associate Thai wine with anything remotely concerning grapes. However, the Thai wine industry and wine types like Thai red wine are in full swing aided by a number of entrepreneurs, favourable laws and a growing influx of expatriates into the country. The wines in the country are mostly of the red wine variety and wine making methods are largely supervised by individuals who come from wine making countries all over the world.
Wine estates that make Thai red wine are located in three regions of the country, Chaing Rai and Pichit. Khao Yai on the Korat Plateau and Central in the Chao Phraya Delta.
The cooler climate of certain areas like the hilly Pak Chong has made it an optimal location for the growing of Syrah grapes. However these grapes are grown in other areas of Thailand as well.
Thai Shiraz is a red wine that is fresh sweet and fruity, it goes well with a number of international dishes and Thai food as well. It is made predominantly from the Syrah grapes.
Some brand names popular in Thailand are the Monsoon Valley Red, a dry red wine which is made from a blend of grapes that include the Syrah and Muscat grapes. This Thai red wine has a fruity aroma and tends to be medium bodied as well.
Another popular Thai red wine brand is the Chateau de Loei located in the Loei Province. It is responsible for a huge number of wines that can be found in exclusive locations in Thailand. They were one of the first Thai wineries to start production and export a substantial amount of their product annually. They are also known for their Syrah varieties of wine and also their wine making methods which are French influenced. In the employ of the Chateau are a number of master wine makers who also come from France as well as other reputable wine making countries of the world. Their Syrah and Syrah Reserve brands with ripe berry fruit flavour are especially recommended with red meats and spicy dishes.
