Under the leadership of Paul Dolan, former President of Fetzer Vineyards, Parducci are committed to socially responsible and environmentally sound agriculture and winemaking methods while working to enhance the quality, recognition and perception of Mendocino County Wines. The winery, the oldest in Mendocino, was certified as organic by CCOF in 2003 and all vineyards are either certified as or in transition to organic and biodynamic status. 150 acres practice Fish Friendly Farming whereby the use of pesticides and other controls which could be damaging to fish, are kept to an absolute minimum.
Bob Swain, who has been Parducci’s winemaker since 1997, continues at the winery, making the shift from conventional operations to organic farming and sustainable business practices.
Says Paul Dolan ‘We are clear about what we want – an environmentally and socially conscious winery making great wines from Mendocino. We want to have fun, reaching out to new audiences with each wine carrying a fresh look and message’.
Grapes: 90% White Zinfandel, 4% Muscat Canelli, 4% Syrah and 3% other.
Vineyards: Mendocino County produces some of California’s finest Zinfandel grapes. To make White Zinfandel, we harvest fruit from Mendocino valleys floor vineyards several weeks before we pick from the benchland and hillside grapes for our red Zinfandel. We then ferment and age the wine entirely in stainless steel tanks to preserve its crisp, delicate, berry fruit flavours.
Vinification: 100% Stainless Steel. Alcohol 12%.
Taste: The white Zinfandel displays classic red berry and pink grapefruit aromas augmented by hints of black pepper and wild herbs. In the mouth, its delicate berry flavours have a refreshing citric edge and a light pepper spice tone.
Serve: Moderately sweet and well-balanced, with a crisp finish, it’s a delightful accompaniment to a wide range of dishes, from picnic fare, grilled salmon and roast chicken to country ham and Asian stir-fry.
